Investment categories differ in how an outcome is created. In a contractual or declared-interest product, the bank, government scheme, issuer or other provider states a payment formula, interest schedule, coupon, redemption rule or distribution framework for the applicable terms. That stated mechanism is not the same as a universal or permanent guarantee: rates can be notified or reset for later periods, an issuer or bank must perform its obligation, early exit can change the amount received, and taxes, inflation and costs can reduce the result.
A market-linked product instead derives its value from securities, commodities, property, infrastructure, an index or another underlying exposure; its NAV or market price can rise or fall, and a dividend, coupon, distribution, annuity quotation or past result must not be read as a guaranteed total return. Government backing, deposit insurance, regulation or exchange listing addresses particular risks only and does not eliminate market, liquidity, inflation, operational, tax or rule-change risk. Futures and options are derivatives for transferring or taking market risk and are high risk, not a savings scheme: leverage, margin, expiry and settlement can produce losses exceeding the initial amount deposited.
This directory covers major investment categories and access options in India. It is not a list of every individual mutual fund, SIP, bank deposit, bond, NCD, ETF, SGB tranche, government-security issue, NPS scheme or annuity, REIT, InvIT or open offer. The date a source was checked is not the effective date of a rate or other term, so current interest rates are not quoted here; check them in the latest official notification.
Availability can vary by provider, branch, security, fund, tranche, contract or offer, so confirm that your chosen option is open before you plan around it. In particular, do not assume a new SGB issue is open without an official notice; Gold ETFs and regulated securities-market protections are different from unregulated digital gold; and NPS eligibility, exit and tax rules can vary by subscriber sector and can change under recent amendments. Nothing here is a recommendation, ranking or suitability verdict.
